IIP Foundation conducted an “Introduction to Photography” workshop in association with Confederation of Community Based Organizations of India(CCBOS), and Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti, during YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOR CONSTRUCTIVE WORK AND PRE CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM on 18th and 19th January 2015, at Mahamasund, Chhatisgarh.
“Photography is a uniquely accessible medium that empowers and provides opportunities for Youth to share their stories with the world” says Mr. Rajesh Goyal, Managing Trustee , IIP Foundation
The main objective of this career workshop was to introduce the Youth to the tangible skills of a Photographer, expose them to new means of expression, and empower them to impact their lives and environment. The participants were exposed to the various possibilities of both apprenticeship and entrepreneurs in Industries like Advertising, Media, Bollywood, TV after under going a skill enhancement training in the subject.
In tandem with PM Modi’s vision of providing the Youth with skills and ability to tackle global challenges, IIP Foundation offered 250 scholarships worth Rs 20 Lakh. At IIP we fully support PM Modi’s vision of “Building a skilled India”. According to a survey, only 2.3% of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training as compared to 68% in the UK, 75% in Germany, 52% in USA, 80% in Japan and 96% in South Korea.
Photography as a skill would help the local youth explore their community and document their surroundings,” thus helping them to build their identity. Photography empowers the Youth to not only document problems such as crumbling infrastructures, failed policies, and racial division, but also to portray the good work done by administration and community service agencies. Indian Economy, in spite of witnessing a phenomenal growth has not been able to generate additional jobs in the organized sector. Skill training is crucial to enable people earning a decent livelihood, whether through wage or self-employment.
The workshop mentor Mr. Rajesh Goyal made a very valid point that learning photography provides the Youth with a rare blend of artistic and technical skills, while opening up a new avenue for self-expression and Economic independence.
We at IIP Foundation sincerely hope that through photography our Youth find their voice, identity, creativity, and gain new confidence in their worth and abilities.
